The Walter Jack Studio in Bristol won the tender to design a piece of Public Art for the new Barnsley Civic Centre.
Their winning concept was for a 50m LED clock on the face of the building which they asked jayex to design, manufacture, install and commission.
Walter Jack:
"We drew on the glass box with a strip of 24,500 L.E.Ds. Three bright lines of light, of different lengths, move around the box. It is an abstract moving work, that gradually becomes a clock as you 'get' it, or are told about it.
Once understood it will be easily read (after all the analogue clock face is abstract until learned). It's about 3.45 in the picture."
A video showing the second hand ticking around the building can be seen at www.walterjack.co.uk/Projects/P10/
