Electronic display helps call waiting patients
With nine million deaf and hearing-impaired people in the UK, a visual display can help clinics and surgeries call waiting patients. A Bedford GP recently calculated that each practitioner under his roof had saved an hour per week since the installation of a Jayex D300 patient call-in board.
The system removes the confusion of who is next in line to be called and saves reception staff from embarrassment or offence over foreign or difficult names, by clearly displaying the patient’s name or number when the doctor or practice nurse is ready for them.
Information and health-promotion messages can also be displayed. Jayex have also developed a natural speech system for their Evolve software to ensure doctors know when a sight-impaired person is waiting, but this may well take some time to implement due to the pressures the market is under with the NPfIT.
